tissue | Gewebe

The key aspect of this collection was to explore the ambiguity of the word tissue (Gewebe) in the German language. On the one hand, the term refers to a textile fabric made from interwoven threads . On the other hand, it relates in a biological sense to a compound of cells with nearly the same design and function, such as our skin. While both meanings seem to be very different at first, they move into close proximity by the fact that the textile tissue is in direct contact to our biological tissue. The topic is technical and emotional at the same time as it focuses on the two most important aspects in a designer's work: The body itself and the basic material he or she works with.
MULTILAYERED
The cotton fabric used in this collection is simple and unobtrusive in its structure. Its distinctive character is formed using special seams as well as extensive layering and stacking concepts. This way, the fabric gains in terms of density and structure and the tissue obtains an almost three-dimensional character.
DERMATOID
The rubber serves as a counterpart to the matt cotton tissue. Resembling human skin, rubber is both soft and fl exible. Wearing rubber initially feels peculiarly cold and reminds one of an empty hull. However, after a short time the material starts to absorb the body heat. It becomes increasingly supple and adheres to the body like a second skin.
