You - The Sketches!
You’ is a worth-taking journey from Jamshoro to New Mexico.

A product of six years of blood and sweat, You is a record fully drenched in tradition.

My cover designs for the most beautiful, soulful, and diverse album coming from Pakistan. This was an absolutely transformative journey for me. Each song was thoroughly inspiring. I would like to thank Saif Samejo for taking me through this journey; I am very fortunate I had wonderful opportunities to take a step ahead towards becoming myself and nothing more. I remember the first painting I made for the album with sun and really wild waters; a complete portrayal of the storm stirring inside of me. Saif Samejo took me on a journey to calm that water so much, tame it down to stillness. Stillness is not a bad thing; it's not the same as being stuck. It just means accepting who you are and being here and now, even if you don't like the present. This was a work that didn't feel like work. I've always worked emotionally. If I can't feel it, I can't create it. This experience was really a dive I took inside of me. I am very thankful to these people for believing in me when I didn't believe in myself. I will always keep my heart and my mind open to feeling more so I can create more and create better. Thank you for seeing who I feel I really am, thank you for seeing in me, the person I want to be.

The spiral on the cover of this album symbolizes the path leading from outer consciousness (materialism, external awareness, ego, outward perception) to the inner soul (enlightenment, unseen essence, nirvana, cosmic awareness). Movements between the inner (intuitive, intangible) world and the outer (matter, manifested) world are mapped by the spiraling of archetypal rings; marking the evolution of humankind on both an individual and collective scale.
Moreover, in terms of rebirth or growth, the spiral symbol can represent the consciousness of nature beginning from the core or center and thus expanding outwardly. This is the way of all things, as recognized by most mystics.
The colors used on the faces of the starring artists are inspired by Taoist elements of the Earth:
Wood, Earth, Water, Fire, and Metal.

On the back cover is a painting I made using the color of red wine symbolizing passion that I see in Saif Samejo and his ways of transforming his passion into compassion for others. Wine being red as blood and gushing from deep in the ground, symbolises life and strength.

"This is a product of six years of blood and sweat, You is a record fully drenched in tradition; a dialogue between the Bulleh Shahs and the Ghulam Farids, the Bhittais and the Sachals. This is not to say that antiquity is all that the album really offers. Pieced together simultaneously at Saif Samejo’s Lahooti Music Ashram and Jono Manson’s The Kitchen Sink, You is still very contemporary and fresh at its core. Its title takes root in the simple concept of surrendering oneself to the beloved who mirrors the highest reality." - ET
