Wellness Institute and Health Learning Center Graphics

Graphics created for the Wellness Institute and Health Learning Center (HLC) of Northwestern Memorial Hospital (NMH) were a stark departure from other NMH graphics. The Wellness Institute featured services such as smoking cessation, weight management and massage therapy with the themes of alternative health, prevention, wellness and a holistic mind/body relationship. The HLC functioned as a library but also offered classes in prevention and education and facilitated efforts such as support groups. The hospital, as a whole, had a general mission to treat or cure disease and assist in healing after injury. These distinctly different service orientations required markedly dissimilar graphic styles. These two entities called for a somewhat customized approach to branding when compared to other departments of the hospital. Though the branding for both the Wellness Institute and the HLC had their own look, they still needed to look like they belonged in the Northwestern Memorial family.
A table-top promotional board with tear-off cards providing information about the Health Learning Center.
A Wellness Institute patient folder, used to hold printed information relating to a patient's specific needs.
A promotional card for the Wellness Institute. Intergrative health services were a relatively new idea when this card was produced, so it was deemed necessary to call out specific services on the inside of the folding card.
Two updated brochures for the Health Learning Center (HLC). The brochure on the left featured general infomation about the HLC. The brochure on the right promoted women's health classes offered though the HLC.
A suite of collateral materials for the HLC. Clockwise from the left, refrigerator magnets used to promote services (the graphics were printed on a magnetic material and perforated, ready to be broken apart), a brochure and and event invitation. These pieces together demonstrate the HLC's branding. A slightly subdued, primary-like color palette was employed to suggest education and learning. It was meant to be bold and stand out due to it's bold mission of empowering patients with the knowledge and resources to take responsibility for their health and gain greater confidence in their healthcare decisions.
Mind/Body Services and Health Promotion brochures for the Wellness Institute. For these two brochure, speckled paper and subtle earth-tone inks were chosen to connote a more natural and holistic approach.
From top to bottom, a brochure featuring information about the Wellness Institute's travel immunization program, a Health Learning Center promotional brochure and a brochure providing information about the Wellness Institute's smoking cessation offerings. Again, these brochures feature less subtile and bolder graphics that connote an active, preventative stance.
