My digital asset summative will be a dialogue exchange between the main character and 7 other characters in a fantasy game, in the style of a visual novel. The 7 other characters will be an npc party you can join, each character will have their own unique personalities, character designs and dialogue options. Taking artistic inspiration from the steampunk universe, fantasy rpg's and my own characters and stories. Adrian (the main character) will meet the crew of the Airship Wyvern, Captain Morgan Remtek, Nurse Jordan Cinma, Arthur James McColtan the cook, Maria Guiness the seamstress, Alex Branolds the engineer, Mark Aleksander the ship’s communications man, and Xaivier Uneha the ship’s owner and mission leader. This game’s target audience would be for children 10+ as some content, such as war, may be too much for a younger player.
The general mood will be generally light, as you choose your own path the mood will change to a more serious one as you near your goal and situations become more dire. Whether you choose to unlock the dormant powers bestowed upon you as an infant, or you choose to aid your country in war. The player should feel a sense of agency in the world and where every choice matters.
The mood will be reflected in the visual style of the game, using light pallets early on to ease the player into the world, as they become more immersed in the game the colours will become more and more saturated. This is to bring more life to the world, showing that it is alive and vibrant. The visual style will be cartoony, with enough detail for the intricacies of the world and its characters to be evident. Taking design inspiration from the steampunk universe there be steam powered machinery; such as airships, trains and automatons among other things. The steampunk universe is entirely fantasy, everyone who takes inspiration from it will reimagine it differently. This reflects again on the player’s choices and how they can affect the world in the game. I will also be taking inspiration from fantasy rpg’s with the functionality of the game and the quest narrative, but adding the option of choosing what quest the player undertakes and how they will complete it. I will also be incorporating my own ideas into the game, as the crew of the Wyvern are characters i had created and developed before the game was conceptualized. Adrian’s encounter with the crew of the Wyvern will take place before their main quest in their respective story arc.
I will be drawing characters and creating 3 backgrounds in Photoshop. I will be making a score, in Adobe Audition. I also might create some of my own music. I will be animating the characters and dialogue in Adobe After Effects.
