CONCEPT
The brief required to create any type of light fixture using wood. Having already experimented with bending wood, I drew inspiration from the helix shape of DNA. I wanted to try and bend veneer wood to form this particular shape. This was repeatedly tested,  but since the curves bend in different directions is was very hard to achieve a smooth, finished piece. I had carved wood to create the mould, this inspired me to carve the helix shape out of wooden frames, these are stacked, rotated glued an then carved to form the structure.
LIGHTING
This product, is a feature piece which provides ambient lighting, It serves as an uplighter and the acrylic panel in the bottom section glows as light is directed towards it.  It is made out of African Walnut and is hand carved and finished with a glass panel to cover the top.
