The physicality of time

Inspired in this short poem of Eduardo Galeano I thought about the purpose of utopias, targets and goals and how they allow as to keep walking straight to our dreams even when they are
unachievable. With this project called The Physicality of Time I want to point the attention of the viewer in this abstract topic by showing a journey of improvement through a display of physical objects where its propose is more important than its result because it is the truly engine that powers advancement.

To reflect this idea I have conceptualized my own journey of learning to throwing. I chose it because is an ability that have to be build with persistence, observation and practice rather than with natural talent. Based in the popular believe that If you spend ten thousand hours doing something you become a Master I wanted to do something similar in a smaller scale. The main idea of my project was to spend 10 hours strictly dedicated to developing this new ability. In this ten hours I did 60 different and individual pots, in each I dedicated the same amount of time, ten minutes. I did this because instead of using the pottery as a final result I wanted to keep them in order to have a physical objects that contain the time and the energy spent during the process. At the beginning it was such a challenge to admit that I had to leave the pots as they were after the ten minutes, even if they were unfinished or broken. It was difficult task for me because I wanted to remove the failures and just keep the ones I was proud of. Even though, after meditating it and doing and effort I realized how important was to keep the mistakes, them, were also part of the process, them, where as important as any another ten minutes in my new skill learning journey. Now, looking back what I did I find interesting the imperfections of the results and the mistakes of the process because, in some way, metaphorically they create together a collective where all the individuals are singular and different despite the fact of being made of the same amount of clay and time.
