Con Tong Shan in Hakka dialect means go back to our homeland. Just a little bit of history, my Grandparents came from Taipu (Guangdong, China) to Indonesia during the 30's. As an Indonesian Chinese family they grew us up closely with all of the traditions and always manage to keep in good contact with our family there.

In this series, I went to Taipu with my family to celebrate the fifteenth day of Chinese new year that is called Chap Goh Meh. Its a one day event where everyone celebrates the day by having a lunch and dinner together, visiting the cemetery, praying, celebrating, playing firecrackers and simply gather around to spend a quality time with the loved ones.

When the sun goes down everybody is getting ready to set the fireworks. We were enjoying the dinner while watching the show. After that there was a festival in the village where the God Train with lion and dragon dance visiting the villagers' house for blessings. While this happens everyone came into a place where there are food offerings and people are lining up with their joss sticks just to wait for the God Train to arrive because there was a believe that whoever put the joss stick first, they will be blessed for the rest of the year.

After that everyone gathered in the ancestral hall waiting for the lion and dragon dance to come. There was a tradition that right when the lion and dragon comes all of the fireworks should be lighted up and will only be stopped until the ceremony is over. This is to show that the family is living in a prosperous life.
