The Wild Places - Exhibition 2012

The Wild Places
Photography Exhibition 2012
ABSA Klein Karoo Nationale Kunstefees
The body of work which makes up this exhibition looks atthe shifting faces of the landscapes in our immediate surroundings, the effectit has on our psyche as well as the effect of human interference on thisuntameable ‘surface’ which we attempt to make our home.

Through Photographic studies of what can be consideredtypical South African Landscapes, farmlands, mountain passes, Karoo scenes andseascapes, the work suggests the places and spaces we take for granted as ourconstant scenery. Not our urban surroundings but the places we pass through andvisit for their beauty and mystery. These awe inspiring landscapes share littleof their secrets, although we try our best to decode them through scientific orgeological means.

The way in whichwe experience the unforgiving spaces we claim and change for our own uses andhow we view our landscapes through history documents the mark we have made, orthe mark the landscape has made on us. We as humans refuse to admit our ownvulnerability, as well as our understanding of something much greater than wecan fathom.
