HOUSE IN LUANDA - International Competition

A House in Luanda . 2010 International Competition
bioclimatic architecture . sustainability . eco urbanism

The objective in this competition was to create a modular house to Luanda (Angola),to be built by the people with the supervision of a qualify and experienced builders.

The earth construction was once knowledge that lived within communities and was passed from the elders to the younger s as the way to have a proper home with a financial low input. In this project we meant to recover that social link between neighbors, so that the community can work as an all.

My team mate in this project was my good friend Rui Alves

Some photos of my experience in earth construction in Navapalos, Spain 2006.

I worked the arc as an structural element, this solution as the benefit to create windows and doors using only the same material of the wall, in earth construction this is very important to the cohesion of the building. This was one of the premise to the project of Luanda, the earth construction as the Technic to answer to a low cost building but with a high performance.
