MEP_D FROM TWO TO THREE DIMENSIONS: Softlight
 

The design idea came to me when I experimented the origami's technique and understood that by using some simple folds I could give resistence and strength to a piece of paper. For this reason, I have decided to use the technique of only two folds (horizontal and oblique) in order to create, fixing the ends, a long "cylindrical" spiral.
 
The material that i have selected for the realization of the lamp is rice paper, a very flexible and thin material because it filters the lamp's light without creating discomfort to the eyes. The rice paper, in addition to being closely linked to the japanese origami culture, is environmentally sustainable, biodegradable and cheap.
Rice paper is usually obtained from moolberry but it can also be made with bamboo, canapa, rice or corn, these materials give the paper different characteristics from the one made of moolberry.
 
The main characteristic of Softlight is the simplicity of the design. It's only composed of three elements (lamp holder, cable and rice paper sheet) and it can be easily assembled thanks to the low number of passages.
Due to the limited number of components and the simple realization with Softlight we can significantly reduce the cost of transportation thanks to a small packaging and the lightness of the components.
