In this tutorial I will show you how to easily create vegetal or mineral faces of mythological beings.
This process in some way resembles the celebrated Rohrschach test used by psychologists to assess personality characteristics and emotional functioning, in which an inkblot is folded in two to create a symmetrical image that can have a multitude of visual interpretations, but mostly subliminal human figures, animal heads or butterflies. The visual effect works because of the innate human tendency to see faces in symmetrical features, called “pareidolia”. You can use any image editor like Photoshop, Pixia or Coreldraw to create your own image(s).
Follow these 4 simple steps:
1. First, take a shot of a tree trunk…
2. Then, crop the most interesting section of your photograph.
3. Duplicate it and mirror it.
4. Join the two images together, edge to edge, to obtain a seamless image (no need to retouch!). Et voilà! What does the image represent? A skull? A dog? A mythological animal?
You can also use the same process with minerals to create astounding faces...
A skull of a monster?
A creature of the night?
A stone totem?
