Article 11 - Part 1

Public Awareness Poster
This poster was an assignment for second year graphic design students. We had to design a 11 x 17 poster on an article from the United Nations Declaration of Rights. The article that I had to represent was Article 11 Part 1 which states: Everyone charged with a penal offense has the right to be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law in a public trial at which he has had all the guarantees necessary for his defense.
First of all I decided to place an older looking man in this poster because I wanted to show that he has had a long life and has done a lot of work in his lifetime. Then I decided to put a bright butterfly as a replacement of where his eye would be. I decided to do this because I wanted the man to be a symbol of innocence. Then I decided to put the number 11 around his eye because I wanted to make those elements look like jail bars. This would be symbolic of how our law system works.
