An idea I chose to focus on was ‘Light Graffiti’ – moving light. I looked at different photographers such as, Sola, Lichtfakor and Taylor Pemberton who focus on a wide, colourful and bright range of light graffiti ranging from swirls and shapes on urban backgrounds to elaborate graffiti patterns with wild backgrounds.
I also looked at Nicholas Gooden, who uses the idea of colour selection, therefore, I wanted the background to be black and white and the moving light would be in colour. I also thought about the different angles which would affect the light. From Grant Brittain, I used the artificial light idea which would create the movement light. I used the idea of having the skateboard in shot and the low angle to relate to photographer, Josh Maready. When I took my photos, as the ground was wet, many of the photos had reflection of the moving light which was very effective.
To get the moving light when taking my photos, I had the shutter speed around an average of 3 seconds to get the full motion of light. I asked the subject to make specific patterns while moving along on a skateboard to ensure the lines were smooth. In Photoshop, I used the ‘Colour Replacement Tool’ to remove the colour of the background, ensuring only the light was in colour.
