Hackney Council briefed Design Friendship to create a visual brand identity for Ridley Road Market, E8. Originally established in the 1880’s Ridley Road Market is the beating heart of Dalston in London's east end, and the local area has always attracted new immigrants settling in London for well over a century. In more recent years Dalston has enjoyed a creative revival, and the market continues to be a melting point of the diverse range of cultures who have made Dalston their home.
We worked closey with the Market's management team, who in consultation with the markets stall holders, chose a route inspired by the traditional block cut sign-writing found around Ridley Road Market. The mark's bold approach was also designed to standout against the vibrant and busy market, and is supported by a range of simple, brightly-coloured, repeat patterns based on the goods on offer by the markets traders.
