As a longtime NBA fan, and a designer of brands, I was recently inspired by this Mitchell & Ness Bulls hat to experiment with the brand equity of each team. I wanted to see if a team could be represented and recognized based on color alone. All other visual identifiers (logos, letters, shapes) have been eliminated. In the end it was a test of a team’s brand heritage based on the visual identity decisions they have made over the decades. For some teams the color choices were obvious. For others, their colors have changed enough that it proved to be a challenge to determine which colors best represented the team’s brand. A fun test of a team’s brand equity.
