Buzludzha VR is a virtual reality experience based on the environment of the Buzludzha monument built by the Bulgarian communist regime in the 1970s. The structure has been abandoned since 1989 and this led to its ongoing physical degradation. The main aim of this project is to raise awareness about the monument and suggest a new purpose for the abandoned mega structure. Buzludzha VR is an unguided exploration experience and also a small history lesson about the building, all presented inside of a redesigned, conceptual version of the structure to show what it could look like if it was ever restored. Buzludzha VR allows the audience to explore and sense the monument in a way that would otherwise be impossible in real life. Although the project was designed for the HTC Vive VR platform in mind, the downloadable experience from our website can be also viewed on a flat screen, like a traditional PC game. Read Less

We believe that communist symbols and style do not work in the 21st century. Perhaps the presence of these symbols is one of the reasons for the current poor condition of the Monument. We wanted to use the Buzludzha’s unique and unusual architectural form to creatively restore the structure and suggest a new use for it. That's why we decided to turn Buzludzha into a modern multi-functional complex.
The spacious reception / lobby. Welcome to Buzludzha.
The redesigned amphitheater can accommodate up to 350 people, which makes it suitable for small concerts and art performances. The grand piano is playable in virtual reality.
The breakout area - cafeteria. The elevetors in the distance allow for the access to the top of the tower.
One of the highlights of the Monument - the 107 meters high tower.
Inside view of the panorama platform on top of the Tower.
The outdoor corridor, also called scenic gallery, presents 16 framed pictures of the most beautiful places in Bulgaria. When touched with the VR controller, voiceover in english tells you more about the place.
The dark corridor that had no purpose in the original building, has been turned into a museum filled with pictures that show the current state of the monument. Upon touching a picture in the museum you are automatically teleported to the place where the picture was originally taken from.
