About the project:
The town where this building is located has had a big industrial development during the past century. Nowadays some buildings have been left between the new housing and urban areas, and deserve to reborn and to be inserted again as part of the town’s life.
ELMA office building was constructed in 1930 as an icon for the house machine product brand. The building has got many influences of the Art Deco style, Viennese Secession style, Classic inspired details and more. It has been considered as a heritage building, and it’s protected as so.
The main aim of the project is to rehabilitate this building which is located near the town centre and has got good access for pedestrians and cars coming from outside the town, creating the Centre of Industrial Memory of Deba Valley.
Building will consist of 8000m2 consisting of
- Entrance hall + information point + auditorium 800 m2
- Museum + offices 2900 m2
- Archive + consulting area + offices 1400 m2
- Underground parking lot 2900 m2
For the rehabilitation part it has been done very deep analysis of the style, detailing, building, structure etc. Building has been preserved as it is, trying to keep the most of it intact so that the visitor can see and remember the past life of it. Main changes have been the interior skin, insulation and additional stairs.
The new volume attached to the old one, respects the previous connections of the surrounding industrial buildings and keeps the memory of what this building has been.
