Pak Telecom Mobile Limited or Ufone (Urdu: یوفون) is a Pakistani GSM cellular service provider. It was the third mobile operator to enter Pakistani market. It started its operations, under the brand name of Ufone, in Islamabad on January 29, 2001.
PTML is the wholly owned subsidiary of Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited. Following PTCL's privatization, Ufone became a part of the Etisalat in 2006. Ufone is among the largest GSM mobile service provider and fourth largest mobile service in terms of subscriber base of over 24 million. It has a market share of 18% among mobile operators.
Ali Communication was one of the Ufone franchise, situated in the City Kandhkot of Province Sindh, Pakistan. Ali Communication, at that time, was operating successfully for 3 years, serving thousands of consumers. It was ideal for the franchisee to establish business at that location, because of the growing demand among the people of that city.
In the year 2010, Ufone Telecom changed its working policy and was in the process of eliminating the manual system completely. It was instructing franchisees to deploy Computerized Database system till the company develops and implements its own, countrywide. This required a computer and internet access. Franchisees were further instructed to eliminate manual paper forms & registers as they will be provided Computer and Internet Access by the company which will make the process real-time i.e. whatever the process of registering the new SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) is i.e. the time consumer took about in 30 days will be fulfilled in 24 hours and the Franchise dealers can submit their new stock request online which will be processed within 2 days (earlier it took 1-2 weeks). This Policy was implemented in the interest of providing fast and quality customer service.
All the Franchise activities were also instructed to be converted into database system rather than keeping the files.
I was given the task to create a database system for Mr. Ali Muhammad (franchise owner). It was told to, keep it as secure and simple (User friendly) as possible because it would help him to train his staff easily and they can get aware of the computer environment as quickly as possible.
Investigation Plan:
My investigation plan was based on 4 data gathering techniques:
1- Document Analysis
2- Interview
3- Data Observation
4- Final meeting to submit proposed and alternate solutions
I preferred detailed investigation for this project because I had to understand the working of manual system in-depth. It was also helpful in developing database based on the user requirements. Main reason for this detailed investigation was to avoid miscommunication when analyzing the manual system.
