In this project I created my own ceramic crucibles in which I melted glass. I brought the crucibles with the glass up to 2300 degrees in a gas kiln in the foundry. When the kiln was to temperature, I began melting the bronze. When both were hot, I opened the gas kiln at 2300, removed the glass crucibles and poured the bronze and glass simultaneously into my iron fabric forms. The iron forms acted as a setting in which the glass and bronze could interact. This is playing off of the alchemical definition of the crucible within all of us. The place where the internal fire unites opposing forces. All coloration seen in the images below is the glass taking elements from the bronze during the annealing process. Read Less

Crucible
Hot combination of Glass and Bronze in Iron Crucible fabric form.
