Public space as a museum
By placing a museum label next to everyday objects in the city, the object suddenly becomes a work of art, and the public space becomes an exhibition space. The spectator gets confused and is encouraged to think about the definition of art. Could everyday objects be considered art?

The high and slim design is characteristic to this artwork. Because of this the spectator is in a way taken upwards.
This artwork changes along the day, it is variably lit. During daytime by the sun, at night it lights up itself. After darkness, comes the light. You can view this as an abstract metaphor for the intrinsic dynamics of a city.

Het slanke, hoge ontwerp van dit kunstwerk is kenmerkend. Hierdoor wordt de toeschouwer als het ware mee omhoog genomen. Het kunstwerk verandert mee met de dag, want na zonneschijn komt straatverlichting. Je kunt dit zien als een abstracte metafoor voor de dynamiek die een stad in zich heeft.

'Der Staubsauger', the vacuum cleaner in English, is a peculiar work of art. It looks like a normal bin, but nothing could be further from the truth. Anything that gets thrown in disappears and never comes back. Everything gets sucked up and it keeps the city clean, it is the vacuum cleaner of the city, so to speak. The design of 'Der Staubsauger' is minimalistic and industrial. Form follows function and it has no decorations.

'Der Staubsauger', de stofzuiger in het Nederlands, is een bijzonder kunstwerk. Het lijkt een gewone afvalbak maar niets is minder waar. Alles wat erin gegooid wordt verdwijnt en komt niet meer terug. Alles wordt opgezogen, het houdt de stad schoon en is als het ware de 'stofzuiger' van de stad! Het ontwerp van 'Der Staubsauger' is minimalistisch en industrieel. Het is vooral functioneel en is niet versierd.

'Zetelwerk' voorziet in de behoefte aan een rustpunt voor een moment van bezinning. Het werk is zeer eenvoudig vormgegeven als weerwoord op het complexe leven van de moderne mens.

‘Down to Earth’ is an expression of criticism on the mentality before the financial crisis. People have lived beyond their means for too long. This artwork spans the large gap between the world of consumption and reality. It takes the user out of the money spending mind-set and brings it down to earth where further money spending is discouraged. The design of ‘Down to Earth’ is deliberately minimalist as an example of necessary thrift.

‘Down to Earth’ is een uiting van kritiek op de mentaliteit van voor de crisis. Men heeft te langdurig op te grote voet geleefd. Het kunstwerk overbrugt het grote gat tussen de wereld van het consumeren en de werkelijkheid. Het neemt de gebruiker mee vanuit de oude instelling en levert deze met beide benen aan de grond af, waar verder geld uitgeven wordt ontmoedigd. De vormgeving van ‘Down to Earth’ is met opzet minimalistisch als voorbeeld van noodzakelijke zuinigheid.
