Penguin/Puffin Design Award Competition Entry

The brief was to re design Grimm's Fairy Tales - students were invited to design a whole new look for the cover to celebrate the book's 200th anniversary in 2012.

I really enjoyed tackling such a classic, although very daunting and my ideas changed dramatically in how I would approach the cover as I pushed techniques I had been experimenting with. The finalists will be announced May 10th so I will have to see! Regardless of the outcome the competition is a really good exercise and allows you to really push the boundaries of your work.

I used drawing/painting/stencil/spraypaint/Photoshop/Illustrator.
These are a few pages from my sketch book, you can see the initial ideas were changed quite radically, on the final image! I still like my 'Hansel and Gretal' and 'The Three Bears' Totem pole.
