DXB302: Magazine Project

The following is process work for a collaborative magazine project with Amber Garde, Nick Kirmos, Catie Allen and myself.
ADDENDUM
(ə-dĕn′dəm)
n. pl. ad·den·da (-də)
Something added or to be added, especially a supplement to a book. This definition has been explored and elaborated on for the purpose of creating a magazine that celebrates thoughtful design and vision. The project is a collaboration between 4 creatives, each specializing in separate disciplines.

Week 9: Inspiration for Design

These images were taken from both pinterest and behance, and are the starting point for the direction of the magazine.

The following detailed images are personal favourites of mine, I prefer minimal layout and colours when designing and will attempt to incorporate these aspects into my final piece.
Grid Layout
This is the final layout decided by the group. The larger size aims to reinforce the idea of this magazine being an art piece, focusing on being visually pleasing rather than a traditional, content driven magazine.
Week 11: First attempt
These are first attempt draft designs for my section. From these, I decided the layouts were too simple and bare, and the colours used dont match the rest of the magazine. In the final design, most of these pages have been completely re-done.
Week 12: Refining Designs
The following images are the final designes used, in the order that they appear in the magazine. I have focused more on layering images and textures, to be consistent with the collage style of the other group members.
The background on the two editorial pages is scanned paper, to give more of a layered look. After experimenting with several fonts, i settled on 'Shortcut' because of it's thick, stamp like quality, and i thought it was a nice contrast against everything else on the page.
Scanned paper has again been used for the background on the events pages, and the colour scheme has been kept monochromatic, as all of the images had clashing schemes, and looked too unorgnized together.
This pastel paint mark appears on an overhead, leading into the editorial section. This was done to again rienforce the collage theme of the while magazine. This also gives a taste to the editorial, as the collection has a very 'cut n paste' feel', which i feel this paint represents. It also matches the colour theme for this section.
