I found myself especially interested in Chicago's Lower Wacker Drive. Besides the Batman movie fantasies , In Chicagoan's stereotypes the space is always casted in an unpleasant tone of tungsten lights, and covered with sewage, greese and dust. Contrary to the furnished glory appearance of Chicago, it exists as a strange hidden space, majorly utilized as short cuts for drivers and docking spaces for the buildings below the fancy street level. I become curious what makes it so isolated—is it because of its hard-to-access location, its exceptional function, or simply its unpleasant appearance? Acknowledging my power and limitations as a photographer, I used strobes and color gels to illuminate this space; through this way I transformed this mundane underground space into a surreal one in order to challenge people’s common impression on it.
