Concept, interior design & global identity
The Crampous Mad crêperie is an emblematic place of the commercial heart of Mulhouse since thirty years. The new owners wanted to respect the history of the past owners and of this Alsatian house, unique in this city center, while insufflating to the place a deep facelift.
To achieve this, a total renovation has been necessary to adapt to the many constraints of this very old local that occupies the space of several levels and half-levels, where old beams and interior studs predominate. The volumes were re-designed, opened to the height or partially re-partitioned in alcoves, in order to propose customers varied spaces.
The open kitchen with a boat cabin inspiration, is separated from the customers by a metal and glass frame, providing them a view on crêpes in preparation. This area is designed as a strategic point, opening on the entrance ; a hub that centralizes the reception, the preparation, the counter, the cashbox, and used to guide customers through the restaurant.
In rooms, custom-made benches are equipped with backrests whose the Alsatian pattern (Kelsch) responds with malice to the striped sailor pattern made with ceramic tiles. The black and the white inspired by the Breton flag is also present in addition to the blue, both in pendant lights and in the furniture chosen to complement the benches, as in the custom-made pattern tiles equipping floors and walls. Wood is also omnipresent, from aged floor to table tops, and in the shelves supporting several old framed posters with to the tones of the place. Upstairs, an old suspended boat is separated by a "ceiling" of lighting lampshades bathing the room in a soft golden light. Two more intimate alcoves are treated in more warmer tones, around tables ready to welcome joyful family moments.
In the end, the atmosphere imagined for the restaurant is joyful and lightful, treated with a certain freshness while remaining in compliance with the historical setting. The decor, with both inspiration from Brittany and Alsace, is graphic and patinated, and highlights patterns and fresh marine notes. Authentic and original, this new design of the restaurant is looking for its audience in all generations. In two words : a familiar place, a friendly concept ...
