The essential idea of the markpreston.eu home page was to create a website that worked over multi dimensions at the same time, creating typography and imagery flowing through different angles and spaces. Each section or discipline has its own dimensional space distinct from the others.
Many Parts of the home page, portfolio overview and project pages use typography to make instant connections or expressions to the projects they are linking to. I have also used typography on certain appropriate projects as the main starting image to quickly give an interesting typographical understanding to what the project is all about.
Ideas & Concepts
BRAND BUILDING
A large part of design I have been involved with is creating or developing brands. Whether building the brand from scratch or augmented an already established brand. The brand building section was very difficult to conceive of, I had the idea of brand building in my mind but it took me some time to think how I could make the connection with the brands I have worked with and typography I wanted to create.
In the end it was decided to deconstruct the companies logos to give an impression of them in blocks or pieces being built or constructed up. I wanted them to be abstracted so they seemed unfinished or changing as brands are always on the move, always mutating, refining & improving. Trying to maintain the logo and font enough so it is still there but requires the viewers imagination to connect the pieces together.
