BARBIE.COM The Evolution of Barbie Official Website

As Mattel prepared to launch the new 2016 Fashionistas® line of the world's most famous doll, they needed a solution that would tie digital marketing and promotion with a brilliant user experience, acting as a self-driver to retailers and Mattel's online shop. I was tasked at Powerstation Studios with helping Mattel bring the highly-anticipated Barbie new Fashionistas doll line to life, by designing and directing The Evolution of Barbie campaign website project.

From initial concepts and ideas to reality, I created all wireframes, UX, overall functionality of the site, designed all the website UI, graphic elements, pages, concepts, functions, user flow and layout. Then I managed the site build with a team of developers, and I hands-on supported the development process ahead of the launch date.

INITIAL CONCEPTS AND UX DOCUMENTS

I began this project with a series of ideation sessions to figure out the user experience, potential design cues, and overall functionality of the site. Here is the initial set of wireframes and sketches I produced for the project. In total, more than 200 sketches and wireframes were created detailing multiple screens, user flows and important site functionality.
A great deal of effort went into creating wireframes that accurately captured the user experience for the site, across multiple devices. The wireframes allowed to ensure that user flow through the site was tight, and that it told the story while giving users an incredible user experience that complimented the release of the new Barbie dolls collection.
EARLY PROTOYPE SKELETON

From conceptual rough sketches to multiple rounds of wireframes, the site began to take shape. Then I jumped into coding a series of html5 protoype skeletons to test the user flow, overall functionality of the site and to help visualize potential design cues. The skeletons also helped Mattel to test the technology involved, environment and integration.
DESIGN CONCEPTS

Upon approval of the prototype, I went to work creating multiple rough design concepts to bring the website to life. These sessions proved fruitful for Mattel. I presented concepts and then started a great collaborative back and forth to get every pixel perfect. What was to be a simple driver to an ecommerce platform ended up being every bit as beautiful and rich of an experience as anything you would expect from Barbie.
