I looked at the many groups already titled Women in Gaming when I was asked to design this title for a series of talks addressing the the female gaming community. I focused on the 'W' rather than creating something that could be perceived as too feminine/feminist. I also avoided using a 'gaming' metaphor in favor of a more mature identity that reflected the Unity brand and it's 3D platform.
I started by pulling apart an existing logo searching for a cool way to do a W.
I wanted it to be asymmetrical in some way.
I hit upon the darker version by chance when I put slightly transparent version of the logo over a dark background.
Here's Fiona Sperry (previously of EA Games) at the first of the Women in Gaming discussions with John Riccietello (CEO of Unity and previously CEO of EA Games) looking on.
Here Professor Dana Carney takes the mic back from John Riccietello (CEO of Unity) after a question at the second Women in Gaming event.
