Instructional Video using Storytelling Techniques

This instructional paper airplane video was created for an elementary audience who is preparing for the Science Olympiad competition. One of the events in the competition is to create an airplane that can fly the farthest distance. Storytelling techniques were incorporated within the video to help the audience better retain the information. Story boards were created prior to shooting to build a solid foundation.
Storyboard 1:
Initially I intended to shoot outside of a school to connect the story to the classroom. However, the buildings did not have the appearance of a school. The opening and closing footage was then shot at a park along the beach. This was chosen to encourage the audience to enjoy the outdoors as they fly their planes.
Storyboard 2:
Close-ups and extreme close-ups were chosen for the footage of constructing the paper airplanes. This provides the audience the ability to see even the smallest details of folding the paper.
Storyboard 3:
The closing scene mirrors the opening to provide an ending to the story. Two additional actors were included in the closing to provide a competition feel.
Narration and music were added to the video via GarageBand. A GOBO, pop filter, and Blue Snowball microphone were used to record the narration. EQ, compression, and DeEsser settings were modified to provide pristine vocals.
