In the December of 2015, I was in the land of Iraq, about to start my epic journey of an 85 kilometre walk, called The Arba'een Walk where millions make their way from across the world to the city of Najaf, to walk from there to the city of Karbala!
Arba'een commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Husayn ibn Ali, the grandson of Muhammad, which falls on the 20th day of the month of Safar. Imam Husayn ibn Ali and 72 companions were killed by Yazid's army in the Battle of Karbala in 61 AH (680 CE). To show their respects to their commander in chief, millions of Shias make their way to the city of Najaf from across the world to start their epic three day jourmey!
