A collection of six pieces that combine traditional carpet patterns with a contemporary image definition, provoking the illusion of walking on soft and fluffy surfaces. 76 dot per inch, 500.000 hairs per square meter
The idea behind this collection is very much related to moooi carpets printing technology. The idea to work on a subject that could make the best out of this technical possibility, to create a collection that couldn't be possible otherwise.
At the beginning it's been a technical struggle to achieve an interesting visual result, created entirely in a 3d environment, hair by hair. The main concern has been to understand the limit of the printing technology in relation to the precision of the images, to understand how fine the hairs could be before they would blur one in to the other, how thick and how long they could be before we lose the design definition... than began a long test on subjects.
The final result is a collection that brings together traditional design, in some cases dating back to 16th century Persian empire, with a very contemporary and complex tecnological process of image generation.
