In Japan, one is required to bring their business card everywhere for a “meishi koukan” – a cultural greeting in which you exchange business cards, even in casual situations. This results in everyone collecting a lot of business cards at all kinds of events, so a freelance designer like me needs another way to stand out and be remembered.
What if a name card was not just a name card? Then that would surely stand out.
This is the concept behind this "Orange Circus" business card .
This business card needs to represent me as an illustrator, concept artist, and graphic designer all at a glance. The color & shape need to show dynamic side of the designer as a problem solver, out-of-the-box thinking (because it’s pop-up!), and the fun side of the designer. "You can get all of this if you hire me or use my services in your project" is the message that I want to convey.
Not just with the visuals, this name card also tries to go deep with the background settings of its character.
Orange Circus’s design consists of a circus member who runs around with a bicycle and a talking umbrella named Orange. The umbrella and bicycle elements not only complement the character’s background story as a bicycle juggler, but its 3D elements can be translated into paper craft.
Those who want to make it a decoration for their desk can follow the perforated line and cut it into a figure. Those who want to keep it as a business card are welcome to as well.
