The first yacht is a modern take on the classic gaff rigged cutters. She has a thoroughly modern hull shape, with a hard bilge and rocket stern profile. She has a straight stem, reminiscent of working gaffers, as is the overhanging rig with bowsprit and long boom. The fin keel and spade rudder, combined with a small angle of deadrise and reasonable beam should give her high performance.
She has a low sheerline and coachroof, limiting space below, but there is ample sitting room on the bunks that sweep in a continuous curve from the quarter berths to the bow. There is significant stowage behind the bunks, but no permanent galley or heads.
The second yacht is a more classic design, modelled on the folkboat. She has a long keel, but the cutaway forefoot and raked transom provide maneouvrability and balance. She has sweet lines with limited beam, a soft bilge and moderate tumblehome. Her cockpit is a continuation of the side decks, protected by coamings foreward and kept dry by a high, spoon bow with plenty of reserve buoyancy.
Below she has four decent bunks with headroom above each, and an amidships galley and chart table. This design is intended to maximise the space inside by eliminating the separate forecabin. It provides two sea berths well foreward of the companionway, but still in the centre of the boat. Curtains positioned at the half-bulkhead foreward of the galley could provide some privacy, dividing the cabin.
