In pursuit of a huge Design-Build-Finance project in Miami for the reconstruction of a signature bridge for I-395, which connects to MacArthur Causeway, connecting Miami to Miami Beach, design ideas were solicited to make this bridge world-renowned.
This design is purely an idea without proposal for cost. However, the design features multicoloured translucent solar panels for the glass that harnass solar energy to power the underlighting at night, making it eligible for LEED certification.
The proposed design abstractly represents all the various colours and flavours of Miami - from the rich history, languages, culture, music, and food. Using a simplistic design and the natural abundance of sunshine, drivers and pedestrians on a viewing platform will be subjected to a dazzling kaleidoscopic array of colours upon entrance and exit of the bridge structure. Depending on the hour of the day and time of year, the colours and lighting will always be different, organically evolving and blending with the geography of the area. The design reflects the art deco aesthetic of Miami Beach and the modernism of Downtown Miami's architectural styles.
