Justin Kamiyama's Portfolio Overview
Welcome to my portfolio. Thank you so much for taking the time to come and check out my work. It means a great deal that you are here and I hope to not disappoint. My portfolio consists of work in the realms of graphic design, interactive design and motion graphics. Feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss more about me and the work that I do.

GRAPHIC DESIGN

JMI Home Solutions

JMI Home Solutions is local handyman and small renovations company. A unique opportunity as this is my brother's company, but more than that, he chose two logos presented to use for his company branding.

Conference Looks

Each year AFCEA puts on numerous conferences touching on a wide variety of topics that pertain to government, military, industry and technology. With each conference, the design studio I worked with was given a brief describing what each conference was and sometimes gave insight as to what kind of visual look they wanted it to have. From there we came up with some possible looks and upon approval were requested to create a wide variety of deliverables both in print and web. Shown here is a look I submitted and was chosen for this conference and carried out through a variety of deliverables.

Conference Final Program

With each conference that AFCEA put on, there was a corresponding final program that needed to go with it. Within each program was the agenda, schedule, information about the different topics discussed, advertisements, and more.

As you can see, they put on numerous conferences each year. As a part of a design studio, we were tasked with creating the visual look for the conference and eventually laying out the final program for each. Shown here are just a few of the conference programs I had the opportunity to layout.

Flyers & Postcards

Leading up to conferences each year, a variety of collateral, both print and web are needed to share the details of, promote and more. A few print collateral AFCEA utilized to do this was through flyers, postcards and mailers. These are a few of the print pieces I had the opportunity to help design based on the look and information given for these conferences.

Web Deliverables

As many websites as there are out there, it seems to have just as many advertisement specs. Whether social media, email, or web pages, here are a variety of web advertisement sizes created while a part of the design studio in charge of AFCEA conference looks.

Social Media Customizations

Whether it be Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Youtube, etc. having a presence in social media is absolute. Having a consistent and matching look across multiple social media platforms is also important. The following showcases taking one organization and implementing a look across multiple social media platforms.

Website Design

For each conference that AFCEA puts on, there is a website that gives all the necessary details for it. As a part of the design studio I worked for, we were requested to utilize an approved template and customize for each conference. These are a few of the websites I had the opportunity to work on.

Sports Logo Stationery

This is a sports logo and stationery suite I created for a dodgeball team. The stationery includes a letterhead, envelope and business card.

One Rock Magazine

One Rock magazine is a magazine that is all about whiskey. The concept and design of this magazine was created with the collaboration and research of myself and four other designers; Jeff Luciana, Patricia Castelain, Josue Mejia, and Antoine Mingo. Each designer focused on a particular aspect of whiskey and based on the articles chosen, which we gained permission to use, designed the layout to go with it. I submitted the logo concept that was modified with the help of the group to what it is here. I also focused on the history of whiskey, and did one page focusing on a particular distillery. For these spreads, I chose to stick to a grayscale palette, but allowing for the imagery to really be the accents with the rich color of whiskey showcasing itself.

Buford's BBQ
My Uncle Buford Sides has a family recipe for a couple flavors of barbeque sauce started by his father about 60 years ago. A few more sauces were created by my Uncle. As a young boy, my Uncle semi-jokingly used to talk to me about what it would be like to market and make a business of this barbeque sauce. Being the graphic designer that I am, I was given the opportunity to at least take a step in making this more of a reality...visually that is. Learning more about the history of his family and these amazing barbeque sauces, the journey began to create a visual component. The main focus was to create a logo and create packaging for Buford’s BBQ. Naturally, a t-shirt and tractor cap were also created. A unique piece of collateral came about with the help of my grandfather, and that was the wood carrying case for a six-pack of Buford’s BBQ Sauces.

Real Estate Brochures

In the real estate business, presentation is a vital part, whether you are looking to buy or sell. Being able to showcase features and amenities with both words and images is a great asset and combination that often leads towards success. One form of print collateral that DeRaedt has chosen to utilize is that of a one-page, two-sided brochure, that I designed the layout for based on a four-page brochure previously used.

FCA Golf Classic

Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) is a Christian sports organization focused on impacting and reaching those in the world of athletics with Jesus Christ. In 2013 the NOVA/DC area put on a Golf Classic to help raise funds so that they can have a greater and more meaningful impact in the lives of all involved in athletics. This event needed a variety of print collateral and I was privileged to be a part of the design studio that helped create the look and print pieces for it.

Pieces include: Save the Date, Sponsor Brochure, Golf Classic Program and Raffle Ticket.

XYZ Violin Poster

Given the opportunity to create letterforms of the alphabet in a unique way, I chose to incorporate my passion of playing music and the violin. Who would of thought having four violins could be so handy? Upon making these letterforms with violins, I chose to turn it into a poster, creating an ad to go along with it, promoting a summer strings music camp.

Legacy Poster

Having created this digital painting, I chose to turn this into a poster about first responders and the legacy that
they leave behind serving their community. This poster also includes a call to action of leaving a legacy of your own by becoming a first responder.

Interactive Design

Infographic

An infographic is an informational graphic incorporating both imagery and text to show a great deal of information in a quicker and easier way to understand. Baseball is a great subject to create an infographic for as a portion of the excitement of the game is in the statistics. This particular infographic features Babe Ruth’s 60 home runs in one season. This infographic tells of the date, teams playing, pitcher and inning of each
home run.

Web Banners

This is a series of web banners I came up with for the Reston Community Orchestra and their 2011-2012 season "Music From Within."
Kinetic Type

Kinetic type is taking a body of text and putting it into motion through animation to bring the words to life. This particular kinetic type project that I created puts a modern spin on the old nursery rhyme “As I was going to St. Ive’s.” The animation created from flash brings more life to this mathematical mystery.

Motion Graphics

Please go to my website vimeo.com/justinkamiyama to see the short animation "Finding Hope" and also my Demo Reel.

Finding Hope

Storyboard for “Finding Hope,” an animation created in light of the Virginia Tech shooting and how hope in such painful times can be found in God.
