For this assignment, we were to design a logo based on a hobby of ours. My hobby is studying East Asian culture, particularly Japanese culture. I partake in a lot of their media, manga especially. In the future, once I am fluent in Japanese, I would like to translate manga from Japanese to English so those over here can read it.
There are a few meanings behind this logo that may not be initially apparent.
First: The red circle represents the flag of Japan, but also an enso. An enso is a circle that is hand-drawn in one or two uninhibited brushstrokes to express a moment when the mind is free to let the body create.
Second: The characters inside, あ and A, are both the first letters of each alphabet. あ is the first character of the hiragana syllabary, specifically, since Japanese combines three different syllabaries.
Third: Nihon = Japan, so I combined the word 'Nihon' with 'now' to make Nihonow, meaning Japan now.
