In 2014, Dreamville released a surprise project titled Revenge of The Dreamers containing Motion Picture by Omen that would serve as his single from his highly-anticipated debut album Elephant Eyes. This song consists of a confessional style told in a narrative form. In first person, Omens reveals how his apprehension hinders opportunity due to self-doubt. Basically displaying some of the pitfalls of being an introvert. Ironically, Omen neglects his trepidation simply by creatively conveying his confessions publicly. In Motion Picture, Omen’s tone and use of allusions illustrate the overall portrait of irony in an artistic utterance.
Throughout the song, tone exists to paint a vivid picture of Omen’s internal conflict. The emotion of this piece stems from a sigh of relief to finally alleviate the stress he harbored. In order to effectively display this mental state he narrates his apprehension by asking himself questions that exhibits his self-doubts. For instance, “I’m apprehensive by his pressure but shall I surrender?” essentially tells the listener he suffered from uneasiness. The tone of this song reveals a sense of bravery when he mentions “I look at my own team like damn they would help me more, that’s no diss just being honest, already pressed record”. The fact that he never before addressed this issue until the release of this record reveals the first step of courage. In addition to his new found courageous motives, Omen’s repetition of “can’t be that same dude chilling on the corner” shows that he realized changed mindset will result in success. In order to acquire self-fulfillment, he must end his stagnancy and take chances.
This song shows that hip-hop is indeed poetry. At this point of Omen’s career, his growth and evolution as an artist and as a person comes to light as well his production creativity as Omen is also the producer of Motion Picture. He conveys images of insecurities to emphasize his innovative formation of mental objects. Albert Einstein said “creativity is intelligence having fun” - Omen’s use of rhetoric devices and allusions to accurately tell his story is proof. Motion Picture serves as the stepping stone to the anticipation of Elephant Eyes, a great body of work with elven songs in which nine of them are produced by Omen himself.
