The project was to develop a more polished identity for a prototyped use of Google Glass in the classroom as a means to keep a students attention and develop conditioned responses.
Here is the existing identity for the product from it's homepage:
Next I looked at how to position this brand in the highly tech focused landscape of venture capital funding.
I drew some sketches to come to explore shapes, letters and the name itself.
I started looking at some shapes that could be in a classroom such as graphs and infinity.
Next I looked at relationship of curved lines to the letters 'C' and 'A'. I added radiating lines to represent both a teacher's control of the class and the wifi signal the product uses.
The result seemed too simplistic so I played with the lines hitting upon the idea of morphing them into an eye.
The font Helvetica Neue Light wasn't working so a type study was needed.
I selected Gotham Rounded Book but worried that the 'C' would look like a 'G' or that the eye would make the first word look like 'LASS'. I would need to use color to combine meaning and shape.
One final touch: the end of the curved lines needed to be rounded off just like the font for a harmonious combination of type and image.
Ta da! The final logo as a full color version with type, image, color and line all working in harmony.
