If I were living in the Paris of those artsy black and white photographs of the early to mid-20th century, this is the bike I might ride to the market to buy my flowers every week.

When I was a teenager, I had a postcard of Brassai's photograph of Montmarte in my room. The reality was probably nothing like the feeling the picture evokes -- magical, romantic, ethereal -- but that's a tiny part of what I was trying to evoke in this illustration: A dash of vintage magic, a healthy portion of midcentury design, heavy on the memories of my first bike (sturdy, bright green metal trike with a white flowered basket), and a pinch of flowers and woven texture. Colors used are gray, white and tangerine.
