Stephen Reeder's profile

Joseph Campbell - An Influential American Mythologist

A real estate development professional with over three decades of experience, Stephen Reeder serves as CEO of the UCR Group in Redlands, California. In his free time, Stephen Reeder enjoys reading. He particularly admires the work of authors such as Jim Rohn, Deepak Chopra, and Joseph Campbell.

Known for his books focused on comparative mythology, Joseph Campbell drew inspiration from the work of a diverse group of individuals that included Pablo Picasso, James Joyce, Sigmund Freud, and Carl Jung. A graduate of Columbia University, Campbell originally planned to pursue a career in anthropology, but he decided that writing and literature were more in line with his interests.

Over the course of his literary career, Campbell wrote more than 40 books, including The Hero with a Thousand Faces, which went on to influence generations of artists and has since become a classic. In addition to his work as a prolific writer, he was a dedicated educator, who taught literature at Sarah Lawrence College for 38 years. Campbell continued to work up until his death, in 1987, at the age of 83.
