Playground - Boys and Girls Club

Milwaukee is home to hundreds of thousands of children. They are born and brought into life situations outside of their control, but these settings have lasting effects. As an essential activity in a child's mental, social and physical development play allows children to learn to share, resolve conflict, express themselves, and learn self advocacy and group skills that are useful in adult life. These images show parks and playgrounds children should occupy but are barren and vacant landscapes due to trends in reduced access to play in schools and reduced opportunities out side of school which has made play a luxury. Members of the Boys and Girls Club at Townsend Street School were asked to consider how they like to play. They then used color and their imaginations to bring life to these vacant spaces.
