“Trophy”

This work was inspired by the GWU/Corcoran merger.  The merger led to the loss of Corcoran collegiate programs, classes, professors, community outreach programs, the Corcoran museum itself and its artwork.

This work was constructed by sewing pieces of cloth-covered fiberglass together while my fractured right arm was in a 90 degree splint made of the same material (Duracast).  My determination to complete my discontinued program and my use of unconventional materials when faced with concrete limitations is emblematic of the Corcoran spirit.  I continue to teach, engage in community work and art making in that spirit, weaving meaning, tenacity and quirkiness into work that connects.
