This is the third subsection of the The Tree of Life series.
Tree of Life: Identity
Drawing trees is a ritual for me. It is something I havebeen doing in a contemplative, nearly automatic way for several years. At firstI didn’t think anything of it, but I realizedthis habitual act holds meaning and value as it expands into a new medium. Treeshold secrets and stories that people have no idea about, but so does everyone

The Tree symbolizes a very intimate connection between myexperience and personal growth. By witnessing these trees drawn on different participants,I hope the viewer will get a peek into my world. I want to show the beauty thatwe all have. Beauty is the natural connection we have with our surroundings. That is why I decided to place many of the people I photograph in the forest.

The concept of the Tree is a representation of a person’sstrength and conviction of beliefs. For me, the Tree shows the knowledge, vitality, and wisdom gainedfrom all of the experiences we have gone through in our lives. We are all individuals, and have experiencedour own processes and situations that differentiate us from each other. Forthat reason, every tree is distinct to express the fact that we are all unique. All of us have a story that makes us who we are and this is my way of showingit to others.

A lot of my thoughts about this sub-section of thisseries were influenced from watching W.A. R., Women Art Revolution. This subsection concentrates on how peopleview their own body and how they identify themselves with other people andnature. I worked with each person andtalked about how they identify themselves in order to worktogether to create an image. I made sure this series was about the modelinstead of projecting all of my ideas on the model. This is the reason why Inamed this subsection of the series Identity.
