:: 動機 ::

[ Fun with Fishing ]
- 2015 Interactive media exhibition -
:: Motivation ::
In the past, newspapers were the main source from which people obtained information, but the amount and instantibility of information provided by newspapers are limited. With the advance of technology, people’s reading habits together with how they usually obtain information have changed. Now, it is not uncommon to see people using smartphones or tablets on the MRT, on the bus, or in public places. The accessibility of information through digital devices such as smartphones and tablets, however, has caused people to be unable to digest information well or understand all information or news. What’s worse, people tend to depend on the headlines to guess what the news is really about instead of the reading all the content of the news. The media has started to take advantage of people’s tendency and exaggerate the headlines to capture readers’ attention. As a result, there are more and more clickbait titles used to “fish for” readers’ attention.
:: Purpose ::
How can readers find issues that are relatively more important to themselves? We created some clickbait titles ourselves based on Upworthy’s model and made an interactive device to allow users to explore the influence of clickbait in their lives. Through clickbait titles and videos to convey more important public issues in the hope that readers can be aware of the influence of clickbait titles and the differences between clickbait titles and non-clickbaits. This will surely help the readers understand that when they are choosing which piece of news to read, they are being “fished” by the media.

:: Design Concept ::
For each pair of fish, there is one news story with a different news title on each. Of the pair of news titles, one is a common news title and the other is a clickbait. While the user experiences the interactive devices, the system will record which of the two types of news titles is “fished” more often by the user and show the result to the user to allow him or her to figure out whether they still have any control over which piece of news to read on the media. In the process of having this interactive experience, the user can think about whether they are “fishing” the news that they want to read, or “being fished” to read what the media want them to read.
:: The Design of the Installation ::
We present a fishing pool that many people in Taiwan can see very often in the night market. Through the fun fishing game, the user will be easily involved in the experience.
:: How to Play the Game ::
#Step 1_Catch the fish on which there is a news title that the user is interested in.
#Step 2_Put the fish the user catches into the other pool with a sensor.
#Step 3_The piece of news that the user is interested in reading will be projected onto a wall.
#Step 4_At the end, the user can find out if they are more easily attracted to clickbait titles.
