23º Auction, The Minories, Colchester, 15.04.16
In order to raise money for our end of year shows at both D&AD – New Blood and at our University my Third Year Graphic Design Class and I decided to organise a fundraiser in the form of an art auction. The process involved contacting both well known and local artists and asking them if they would be willing to donate pieces as well as putting our own work up for auction. The event was a great success and we managed to raise just over £2000 which will be used for both the New Blood stand as well as Final Year catalogues and other marketing material.

As one of the main project organisers my job was to oversee all areas of the organisation process and event. Distributing the jobs and workload to the appropriate people and ensuring that they were completed on time. I was also the main contact person for any queries regarding the event and its organisation as well as assisting with the distribution of marketing emails to promote the event via mail chimp and the universities own internal email system.
The organisation process:
- Contacting and liaising with artist and designers to source a variety of graphic design, illustration and photographic pieces.
- Sourcing and organising the venue as well as working out food, bar, pa systems and space logistics.
- Collating acquired pieces into an appropriate running order and translating this in to an Auction Catalogue,which consisted of lot numbers, titles and descriptions. This was then distributed to guests on the night.
- Creation of promotional and marketing material including posters, Facebook event, invitation emails, lot numbers and bidder numbers.
- Way-finding and signage for the evening
- Sourcing raffle prizes from local companies.
- Sourcing and creating items which were appropriate to be sold in a mini pop up shop.
