There are various traditional artisans in Korea. Korea government choose them for 'Korea important intangible cultural heritage' to continue in traditional craftsmanship. Nonetheless, they have some difficulties because they couldn't find intersection between contemporary and their craftsmanship. Thus the number of them is growing less and less, and we already loss a lot of heritages. The research of heritage kept is identical in character with finding the design identity of Korea. And it is all Korean's responsibility, no confined to designers and artisans.

 

한국에는 수많은 전통장인들이 있다. 정부는 이들을 중요무형문화재로 지정하고 전통유산을 이어가려 노력하고 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 이들의 기술이 현대사회에서 실질적인 역할과 교차점을 찾지 못함으로써 현실적인 어려움을 해쳐나가지 못하고 있다. 이에 따라 해마다 그 계승자들의 수는 줄어들고 있으며 완전히 소실되어가는 유산들이 꾸준히 증가하고 있다. 무형문화재들이 이어온 유산들을 현대사회에 어떻게 결합할 수 있을지 연구하는 것은 한국의 디자인적 정체성을 찾아가는 일과 동떨어 있지 않고 이는 디자이너와 무형문화재 뿐만 아니라 우리 모두가 관심을 가지고 이뤄내야 할 일이다.
