Catch-22 Book Cover Redesign

I was asked to redesign a cover for a book, so I selected Joseph Heller's classic novel, Catch-22. My goal was to convey the stark contrast between comedy and tragedy that occurs throughout the novel. To communicate this juxtaposition, I constructed and photographed a paper plane dropping bombs, which also alludes to specific scene that recurs throughout the book as a traumatic flashback to the story's protagonist. As a nod to the original iconic cover, I used a similar color scheme and employed saturated colors to evoke a sense of playfulness despite the otherwise grim imagery depicted.

I experimented with various angles to see what would best convey a plane dropping bombs.
