Celebrating the various styles of Arabic Calligraphy

As the first Islamic bank in Qatar,
Qatar Islamic Bank takes great pride in its history and culture. As the name conveys, faith is at the center of its mission and guiding principles. But more than that, the bank represents a continuation of generations of Islamic traditions, heritage and culture. But in an era where texting, tweeting and emoticons have become more integrated into our communications, Arabic literature has taken a back seat. So how could we preserve the Arabic language, and honor QIB’s history?
The answer came in the form of a typographic solution—one that explored the origins of Arabic typography itself.
Working with 12 well-known calligraphic artists from the region, we provided them with a full brand induction and allowed them a month to create. The results were astounding.
The twelve, custom-designed compositions each use the same words (Qatar Islamic Bank), but the varied styles and techniques used highlight the flexibility, creativity, freedom and magnificence of Arabic Calligraphy.
The final artwork was applied to posters released for World Arabic Language Day, and serves as a tribute not just to QIB, but to the beauty of Arabic Calligraphy and the Islamic faith.
