1-10 (Marginal objects)

“Marginal objects” are textile objects inspired by photographs from photobook "Croatia from above". Photographs show abstract Croatian landscapes which were, through the three textile works, brought to the new level of abstraction. Objects are made in felted wool in dimensions approx. 80x150 cm. Technique of the wool felting is known for centuries, and re-popularization of that technique is mostly focused on making decorative objects. Potential of wool in Croatia is unjustly neglected and underestimated, and most of them represents environmental issue. Behind this study is three years of research; research of materials, techniques, ways of wool dyeing that would be environmentally friendly and to revitalize some forgotten techniques of dyeing. The primary goal is to demonstrate that unattractive and trivial material can be used for making a highly aesthetic and high-quality products that, depending on the user, can be useful or aesthetic. Objects have dual function as a wall tapestries and carpets. From that point, works are dealing with boundaries between art and design.
