These are images of some collage and embroidery work from a project with the theme of black and white. It was based on our own individual methods of mark-makeing and drawing. I was inspired by spray paint, and its industrial qualities. While spraying some objects black and white for use in embroidery I realised the beauty of the marks left behind the objects on the paper which I had laid out to protect the table underneath. The 'shadow' left behind creates an image that reminds me of x-rays and shadows left by objects in bright lights. I liked the effects it created by using varying degrees of paint. I created twenty collages of materials I sprayed and their grounds underneath this greatly influenced my embroidery samples as a result.
