STAGE DESIGN FOR THE PLAY "THE IDIOT" BY F. DOSTOEVSKY

BRIEF:
Work within the Illusion Cinema foyer spaces to design proposals for a simple, temporary but communicative context for scenes from Dostoyevsky’s The Idiot.
According to the researched reviews and analysis of the Dostoevsky's novel, i decided to give an accent to the author's vision of the World of that period of time. His attitude to the political situation is reflected in the novel,  he was predicting the tragedy of the Russian Empire and demonstrated it's atmosphere in the relationships between characters of "The Idiot". Very often in the novel we can see his thoughts on Kindness and Beauty in the "real" world, a world of lucre and egoism.
One of the examples of Dostoevsky's consernment is the part where Nastassya Filippovna is writing a letter to Aglaya. Aglaya's character is presented here as a Love and Kindness in comparison to Nastassya Filippovna. It is this part of the novel i desided to use for demonstrating the contrast of the Real world and the Desired world.
In the stage design this idea is displayed this way:
on the left side of the stage is the real world. Shattered ideals are interpreted in broken furniture and destroyed architectural pieces;
on the right side there is a mirror which reflects that world that "has been lost".
